Academics | Thesis Guidelines
University rules for thesis and dissertations are clearly stated in the University's Thesis Manual, which can be found on the Web at the following address: http://www.udel.edu/gradoffice/forms/thesismanual.pdf.
Note: The on-line version is the most recent version and supersedes all previous manuals.
Complete the Application for Advanced Degree form. This form must be signed by the Associate Dean before you submit it to the Office of Graduate Studies.
Send an announcement of your defense (for posting) and a copy of the title page, table of contents, and abstract to the appropriate administrator:
Geography Department Chairperson, or
Geological Sciences Department Chairperson, or
School of Marine Science and Policy Directors Office, Lewes (CEOEfirstname.lastname@example.org)
Deadline: at least two weeks before defense
- Reserve Conference Room. Whether ITV is being used or not, reserve both Cannon AND Robinson Hall (contact either Margaret Conlon (645-4279; email@example.com) or Kaci Angeline (831-6933; firstname.lastname@example.org).
- For the Ph.D., download the dissertation defense sign-off form. Be sure to get the appropriate signatures at defense. Send/carry signed forms to CEOEemail@example.com in the Associate Dean's Office (Lewes).
- Make sure your committee members and advisor sign the appropriate pages in your thesis/dissertation. Signature page of the thesis/dissertation should be signed by your Advisor, Department Chairperson or School Director, Dean Nancy M. Targett, Ph.D., and Debra Hess Norris, M.S., Vice Provost for Graduate and Professional Education. (NOTE: Please send a copy of your signature page to CEOEfirstname.lastname@example.org for approval before you make an appointment with Dean Targett.)

Master's (all programs):
- Students in the School of Marine Science and Policy should take the final thesis/dissertation to the School Director (by appointment) for signature. Appointments can be made by contacting Janis Lopez (645-4226; email@example.com).
Submit the final thesis/dissertation to the Office of Graduate Studies to meet the appropriate deadline for degree.
