Polar Bear Takes a Bite Out of Arctic Research

Summer is here, but it's still polar-bear weather up north. Three marine scientists from the University of Delaware College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment can tell you that firsthand. They recently returned from a six-week expedition in the Arctic Ocean off Alaska aboard the Coast Guard's 420-foot icebreaker Healy.

The latest edition of the UD Sea Grant Reporter, a colorful, informative bulletin highlighting the Delaware Sea Grant College Program's research, education, and outreach efforts, was inserted recently in the Wilmington News Journal and now can be downloaded here. In her message, Carolyn A. Thoroughgood, dean of Marine Studies and Sea Grant director, emphasizes the importance of the ocean that covers more than 70% of the Earth, supplies jobs and food, and drives our weather.
