The Center serves as the Secretariat for the Global Web Service on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands. The Global Web Service provides coverage of the "Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands," as well as hosts the "Global Web Service on Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management." Details of these Internet services are provided below:

The Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands

Created at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2002, the Global Forum aims to advance the interests of oceans-incorporating 72% of the Earth; coasts-the home of 50% of the world's population; and islands-43 of the world's nations are small island developing States which are especially dependent on the oceans. The Global Forum brings together ocean leaders from governments, intergovernmental and international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to achieve the sustainable development of oceans, coasts, and islands.

The Global Forum website covers:
  • Global developments related to oceans, coasts, and islands, including the Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands held at UNESCO, Paris, on November 10-14, 2003.
  • Information on the preparatory process leading to the World Summit, including the official Prepcom meetings, the 2001 Global Conference on Oceans and Coasts at Rio+10, and the GPA Intergovernmental Review Meeting
  • Outcomes of the World Summit on Sustainable Development
  • Periodic Global Forum newsletters
