09:10 — Alvin arrives on the bottom, location 2155X, 1560Y; depth 2013.0.

09:41 — Head to Robin’s Roost.

09:46 — Arrive at site; healthy Riftia, galatheid crabs, large bacterial mats.

09:54 — Fine white smoker chimney, more bacterial mats, polychaetes; 2179X, 1521Y.

09:59 — Yellow Niskin water sampler fired. High temp measured at orifice is 306.4° C.

10:28 — Begin geochemistry, temperature measured: 15° – 50° C.

10:48 — Fire sipper 1 on step.

10:51 — Reposition probe 10 in. below orifice, temperature is 20° – 54° C.

11:01 — Fired sipper 2.

11:07 — Fired sipper 3, located 2 in. below orifice, temp. 16° – 54° C.

11:18 — Fired sipper 4, located 1 in. away from orifice on far side, temp. 33° – 40° C.

14:24 – 14:47 — Collected sediment cores (5); 2622X, 1260Y; temperatures ranged from 13° C on edge to 103° C beneath center of microbial mat.

14:59 — Located chimney; 2613X, 1225Y; Hdg. 341.

15:00 — Chimney collapsed during temperature measurements.

15:08 — Located beehive structure for sampling; 2615X, 1228Y; Hdg. 317, temp. 100° C above beehive, temp. 25° – 65° C around base and sides.

15:23 — Begin geochemistry sampling.

15:25 — Filled sippers 5 – 6.

15:28 — Filled sippers 7 – 10.
