What is your name? Andy Berglund

What is your job on the ship? Scientist, collecting Alvinella pompejana and using molecular techniques to isolate RNA and DNA

How long have you worked on Atlantis? This is my second research trip aboard Atlantis; the two trips total ~45 days.

Where are you from? Presently Eugene, Oregon, grew up in Colorado.

What is the most unusual thing you have seen on a cruise? Lack of anything on the horizon except water for 15 days.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten? Rocky Mountain Oysters

What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? Losing power on I-70 while driving from Ohio to Colorado. This happened late at night and I was barely able to get the car off the side of the road.

If you didn’t have this job, what would be your next job of choice? Back country ski guide.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to endure? Writing my first scientific paper.

Where’s the coolest place you have ever been? Why? Isle of Skye, Scotland. Beautiful and remote place to explore castle ruins.
