Job on the ship: Participating in the launch and recovery of Alvin, pre-dive and post-dive system checks of Alvin, maintenance of Alvin, and occasionally having a training dive in Alvin.

How long have you been on the Atlantis? 2 1/2 years

How long have you been a scientist/crew member?
I'm not really a scientist.

Where are you from? Hawaii/California

What's the most unusual thing you've seen on cruise? A booby, which is a tropical bird, riding on the back of a sea turtle.

What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten? Dog

What's the strangest thing that you have ever done? Diving in Alvin

What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? Crashing a motorcycle into a barbed wire fence (70 stitches).

If you didn't have this job, what would be your next job of choice? Primate-trainer

What's the hardest thing to endure? A hike to the summit of Mt. Fuji (4,200 meters) in Japan in the middle of the night, with no flashlight, a 30-lb. pack on my back and my steel-toe work boots on.

What's the coolest place you've ever been? The Galapagos Islands
