Virtual Science Fair

Dr. Craig Cary AudioWelcome to the Virtual Science Fair! This is where we invite all Extreme 2004 participating classrooms to submit their deep-sea work (group or individual projects) in one of three categories: Vent Science, Vent Art, and Vent Poetry — with separate competitions for middle school and high school students.

All Vent Science and Vent Art entries will be judged by Chief Scientist Dr. Cary and members of the Extreme 2004 science team when they return from sea. Prizes will be awarded for the best projects in each category. You'll hear more about the Vent Poetry competition from Karen Romano Young, one of our shipboard education coordinators, once the expedition gets under way, so please be sure to read her Daily Journals.

Did your class develop a great science project as a result of Extreme 2004? Did you conduct an experiment, research a neat topic, and report your results in a scientific poster? Did your class paint a mural of deep-sea life, host a special deep-sea event at your school, develop an advertisement or musical composition for Extreme 2004, or express thoughts about the deep sea and discovery in poetry? E-mail us digital files of your work or package them up and mail them to the address below. Each entry must include the information listed below. The deadline for entries is Monday, December 20, 2004. Good luck!
