The CMES Alumni Event in Washington, D.C.
Our nation’s capital was the gathering place for more than 30 College of Marine and Earth Studies alumni, faculty, and staff on May 31. While enjoying hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, attendees caught up with old friends and heard from Nancy Targett, dean of the college, on recent happenings in Lewes and Newark.
Targett recapped two especially noteworthy developments for the alumni. First, Patrick Harker will take office as the 26th president of the University of Delaware in July 2007. Second, the College of Marine Studies merged with the Department of Geological Sciences in 2006. In addition to its graduate offerings, the new College of Marine and Earth Studies now offers undergraduate degrees in earth science education, geology, and environmental science.
“It was great to catch up with many of my former students,” said associate dean Charles Epifanio. “DC-area CMES grads are doing quite well for themselves in the government and private sectors.”
