Graduate students in the School of Marine Science and Policy are eligible for a new funding opportunity. The Stavros Raptis Howe Grant provides support for ecological research and other professional activities. Recipients may apply the funding toward specific research needs such as equipment, supplies, small-boat time, travel, or for participation in professional meetings.
A limited number of the grants, up to $600 each, will be awarded each academic year. Applicants must complete a request form and provide a brief letter of support from their adviser. Contact Janis Lopez at jclopez@udel.edu for additional details.
The award was created to honor Stavros Howe, charismatic CEOE alum who earned his master’s degree in marine studies in 1981. Howe, who died in 1998 at the age of 45, also held a bachelor’s in zoology from Oregon State University. The alumni, staff, and family who created the memorial fund said Howe would be pleased to know his legacy is helping future scientists.
