Jon Swallow

Director, Marine Operations

As Director of Marine Operations, Jon is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the University of Delaware’s research vessels and small boats, including the R/V HUGH R SHARP  which is a member of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) federal research fleet, the 46’ R/V JOANNE DAIBER, and other small boats.

Jon brings experience from the U.S. Navy and 21 years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Commissioned Corps to the position, including Command of NOAA Ship HI’IALAKAI.  His experience spans several oceans, hydrography and nautical charting, and operational and program management.  Jon began as Director, Marine Operations in July, 2014.
