Research interests at CSHEL fall broadly in the realm of marine geology and coastal oceanography. Research efforts cross many sub-disciplines including geomorphology, scour processes, boundary layer hydrodynamics, sedimentary geology, exploration geology, marine archaeology, forecast numerical modeling, autonomous underwater vehicles, and the development of coastal observing systems. CSHEL research aims to understand the morphodynamic processes of complex sedimentary systems.
