Metabolic mechanisms of losses in plant growth under saline or dehydrating conditions. We explore photosynthesis, cell enlargement, and reproduction beginning at the level of the whole plant but using methods in biophysics, biochemistry, and molecular biology. The overall goal is to understand how growth is inhibited and whether it may be recovered. Experimental material includes marine plants and agronomic species in an effort to extend marine findings to practical applications.
