My research interests are generally centered around the distribution of plankton, their diversity, interactions, and role in ecosystems. Specifically, my interests include phytoplankton ecology, community dynamics, phytoplankton physiology, phytobiology, bio-optics, remote sensing, biogeochemistry and the impact of ocean physics on the abundance and distribution of organisms.

Specific habitats of interests include coastal zones, polar environments, estuaries and coral reefs.  In order to address topics of distribution and scale in the marine environment, I have integrated a number of novel sensors on autonomous underwater vehicles and helped to integrate these platforms in the oceanographic community.
