Joe Scudlark is the Assistant Director for Research & Academic Facilities in the School of Marine Science and Policy (SMSP). He is responsible for administering all of the laboratories, offices, and classrooms within SMSP, encompassing more than 430 spaces in 10 buildings on both the Lewes and Newark campuses. He also manages all of the shared laboratory and office equipment within SMSP, provides oversight of the safety program on the Lewes campus, serves as a liaison with UD departments, outside vendors, and visiting scientists, and organizes and hosts the annual Ocean Currents public lecture series.
Joe joined the UD College of Marine Studies in 1980, where he worked as a research scientist and laboratory manager for 29 years, during which time he co-authored 48 publications. In 2009 he accepted a position as Assistant Director in the newly-formed School of Marine Science and Policy.
Joe holds a M.S. degree in Environmental Chemistry from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse, and a B.S in Chemistry from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.
