Fluid and Chemical Dynamics of Beaches

beach-circulation.jpgWith funding from National Science Foundation and in collaboration with Dr. Holly Michael (Department of Geological Sciences, UD), we are examining fine particle distributions and transport in both the unsaturated and saturated zones of intertidal beachfaces.  This work will help to better define the sources of materials that contribute to the active cycling of nutrients in this zone and may suggest ways in which management of nutrient inputs through sandy beaches to the coastal zone may be improved.
